Mount Baker Opening Day 2010: Generous Party Favors
Mt Baker, WA (November 20, 2010) -- Opening day is more than just a chance to strap in and stretch the winter legs. It’s the time of year when all the mountain folks emerge from their summer-of-working-to-fund-another-winter and leave the 9-to-5ers behind to bitch about the cold weather. It’s kind of like a high school reunion that only features the people you liked, and the opportunity to slash a bit of pow and jib some low tide features are the party favors.
As we made our way to Mt Baker’s much-anticipated opener, snow fell at sea level, maybe keeping some of the I-5 traffic at bay. When they began loading lifts at 9am sharp, it was apparent that Baker was serving up generous party favors: cold, knee-deep powder over a shallow-but-consolidated base provided more face shots than core shots, and clearing skies meant the sidecountry was firing on day one. And the usual faces emerged one by one, smiling to welcome another season to the Pacific Northwest.

Brian Foster taps out Matt Brown at UFC 123
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Brian Foster won a welterweight battle over Matt Brown via submission at UFC 123 in suburban Detroit on Saturday.
Foster started quickly with a takedown. He gave up position for a moment until, then Foster reversed position and took Brown's back. Foster took over the round with a series of unanswered strikes. As Foster worked on the back, he gave up an arm, and it looked like Brown was going to be able to finish the fight with a submission, but Foster methodically and patiently worked out near the end of the round.
The two exchanged heated words between rounds, leading into the second round that started with Foster taking a low blow from Brown. Foster wowed the crowd by catching a kick and using it to deposit Brown on his back. Foster then worked his arms around Brown for a guillotine, forcing Brown to tap at 2:11 in the second.
This is Foster's second win in a row, making the H.I.T Squad fighter 17-5. Brown, an alumnus of "The Ultimate Fighter," is now 13-10.

Check out Dan Henderson as he gets ready for 'Babalu'
Dan Henderson's Strikeforce debut didn't exactly go as planned. After signing with the promotion with much fanfare, Henderson was dominated by Jake Shields for four rounds of their five-round bout. In this video, Henderson talks about how a medication affected his weight cut and preparation for the fight with Shields, and how he's changed things up since then.
Even at 40 years old, Hendo says that he has plenty left to fight for. He will show that this Saturday in St. Louis in a rematch with Renato "Babalu" Sobral.
